Christmas Eve Candlelight Worship Service

This Christmas Eve worship service is a cherished tradition in many Presbyterian churches, fostering a sense of community, reflection, and celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Congregants receive candles upon entering the sanctuary and glow sticks are provided to parents for their children. The service begins with the lighting of the Advent candles, symbolizing the anticipation of Christ’s birth, followed by scripture passages related to the birth of Jesus, carols, and hymns, creating a joyous and festive atmosphere. The sermon reflects on the significance of the birth of Christ and the message of hope and salvation, celebrated with the Lord’s Supper, symbolizing the spiritual nourishment and unity of the congregation. The highlight of the service is the candle lighting ceremony. Congregants pass the light from one candle to another symbolizing the spreading of Christ’s light, while singing “Silent Night”, leaving in silence and the calm of the night.
